Reducing false alarms in vital sign monitoring of neonates by creation of novel sensor technologies.
NewBornCare is mainly about the integration of pulse-oximetry and near-infrared spectroscopy for monitoring of neonatal brain oxygenation to improve quality of alarm decisions in vital signs monitoring. Additionally, advanced video processing tools are employed for face tracking, segmentation and image enhancement to provide for estimates of heart- and respiratory rate in a non-contact manner. The preliminary results show that a significant reduction of the false alarms can be achieved by employment of machine learning on the fused data from the above-mentioned sources.
