Professor Christian A. Gutschow took over as Head of the “Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery” department at the University Hospital Zurich in August 2015. He is a proven specialist in the treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the esophagus and stomach. Prof. Gutschow received his clinical and scientific training at the Rechts der Isar Hospital of the Technical University of Munich (Prof. J.R. Siewert) and with Prof. A. H. Hölscher at the University Hospital of Cologne, one of the largest and world-renowned centers of excellence for surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
In 1999-2000 he was a Research Fellow at the Catholic University of Leuven in Brussels (Prof. J.-M. Collard) and has since published over 100 scientific articles and book contributions in his specialist field. Due to his many years of experience at the University Hospital of Cologne, Professor Gutschow has broad expertise in the field of upper gastrointestinal surgery and endocrine surgery, with minimally invasive techniques forming a particular focus of his surgical activity.
