Our employees are always there for our patients. Through a variety of offers and special conditions, we support you in staying healthy yourself and in harmonizing other areas of your life with your work.

Part-time models are a major need among our employees today, with almost half of our workforce working part-time. All our full-time vacancies are advertised with a workload of 80% to 100%. We support part-time work as well as job-sharing and co-management models with a workload of between 40% and 80%. This is because we see the sharing of responsibility as an opportunity for employees with different skills to complement each other in the best possible way.

We offer employees the opportunity to work from home (including part-time employees) with administrative tasks up to 50% of the level of employment.

The time account is open to all our employees who are not tied to fixed working hours for operational reasons. Small flexitime periods are sometimes also offered in shifts.

All employees are entitled to 1 week’s unpaid leave on request. Special provisions apply to mothers and fathers (see maternity and paternity leave).

Various shift models are available to our employees depending on the area and where operationally possible. Attention is paid to planning and implementation in order to ensure continuous patient care.

The USZ supports the compatibility of family and career for mothers and fathers. In addition to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave at 100%, mothers can also extend this to up to 6 months with unpaid leave if they wish. Fathers-to-be are entitled to two weeks’ paid paternity leave at 100% and can extend this to up to two months unpaid within one year of the birth if they wish. If operationally possible, longer unpaid leave can also be agreed for both mothers and fathers.

People returning to work are valuable employees for the University Hospital Zurich. We therefore want to create framework conditions and structures that are geared towards the needs of modern families and offer them the opportunity to better combine family and career. The USZ offers an in-house day care center:

  • Childcare for children from 3 months to kindergarten entry
