Collagenosis treatment

Since the most important treatment goal is to prevent irreversible organ damage, early detection of the disease and early detection of incipient organ damage is of crucial importance.

Diagnostics

Diagnosis is often challenging, as the diseases can present themselves in many different facets. The scope of diagnostics is therefore tailored to the individual patient.

All patients with collagenoses are assessed and treated in the regular consultation hours for collagenoses. Depending on requirements, additional examinations such as capillary microscopy, validated muscle tests and other organ screening procedures (e.g. echocardiography, lung function) are arranged. As far as possible, these examinations are carried out on the same day. Patients suffering from complex organ involvement and who therefore require evaluation by additional specialist disciplines are seen as part of the interdisciplinary consultation hours for collagenoses and vasculitides. Here, the patients are examined together with the specialist representatives of the other disciplines and discussed in a joint case presentation. A joint recommendation for further diagnostics and treatment is made to the referring doctor.

There are also specific assessments for patients with systemic sclerosis and inflammatory myopathies.

Treatment

As autoimmune diseases with pathological activation of certain components of the immune system, collagenoses often require immunosuppressive therapy. Whether and to what extent such immunosuppressants are necessary depends on the stage of the disease and its current activity. There are specific treatment methods for each collagenosis, which patients are informed about in detail in the special consultation hours.
