This is where dacryocystography comes into play. It is a neuroradiological examination of the tear ducts and is used, for example, to clarify the cause of watery eyes. This is sometimes a difficult matter. Dacryocystography is an X-ray contrast examination and is performed at the Department of Neuroradiology on an outpatient basis, i.e. without hospitalization.
As the tear ducts are connected to the nose, dacryocystography can also help with nasal problems such as deviated septum, turbinate hyperplasia and nasal malformations. The doctor can use it, for example, to clarify whether the nose is involved in the disturbed tear drainage.
Advantages
Dacryocystography is a minimally invasive examination. Only a local anesthetic is required.
Why to the USZ?
Our clinic is an internationally renowned institution in the field of diagnostics and minimally invasive, image-guided treatment. The attending physician has many years of experience in the examination and treatment of the tear ducts, eyes and nose.
Procedure
The examination takes about 15 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia.
Aftercare
Dacryocystography is performed on an outpatient basis. This means that an overnight stay in hospital is not necessary. Your ability to work is also not affected by the examination.
After the examination, you will need to see an ophthalmologist for a follow-up check. Depending on the result, you may need to be treated later in neuroradiology (see dacryoplasty)
