Steeped in tradition, the Department of Ophthalmology has been providing patients of all ages with consultations and treatment for eye-related disease and injury for over 150 years.
At the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospital Zurich, all diseases affecting the eye are diagnosed and treated. In addition to the care of adult patients, pediatric ophthalmology in particular plays a major role and is one of the focal points of the USZ Eye Clinic. For the treatment of glaucoma and cataract, diseases of the cornea or retina, as well as for the areas of neuro-ophthalmology, problems related to strabismus such as diseases of the orbit, eyelids and lacrimal ducts, proven specialists are at your disposal.
Especially in the field of emergency care, the eye clinic of the USZ offers 24h care for conservative as well as surgical emergencies. We are available 365 days a year to treat any type of emergency. We attach particular importance to the fact that surgical emergencies such as retinal detachment, eye injuries or severe infections can be operated on within the shortest possible time – within a few hours – even on weekends and holidays.
With our research we want to develop methods to preserve and improve the eyesight of future patients.
The Department of Ophthalmology is strongly involved in the education of medical students, prospective ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery specialists, and in continuing medical education. Research projects are carried out in various areas at an internationally competitive level.
