Bleeding tendency treatment

Zurich is the largest hemophilia reference center in Switzerland and cares for 220 patients with severe congenital coagulation disorders (hemophilia, von Willebrand syndrome, afibrinogenemia, factor XIII, VII deficiency, etc.), including 50 patients with severe hemophilia A.

Active participation in clinical trials gives patients access to the latest therapies. There is close cooperation with the Children’s University Hospital and the Orthopaedics Department of Balgrist University Hospital with regular interdisciplinary consultation hours. This collaboration guarantees smooth haemostaseological management during orthopaedic procedures and specialized physiotherapeutic follow-up care. A structured transition program has been set up in recent years for the transfer of adolescents from the children’s hospital to the adult center of the university hospital. Diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired forms of inhibitor hemophilia complete the requirements of a Comprehensive Care Center of international standard.

Every year, the outpatient clinic carries out over 1400 new investigations and consultations in cases of suspected bleeding or thrombosis. In cooperation with the Women’s Clinic, high-risk pregnancies are clarified and cared for using hemostasis.
