β2-microglobulin
The β2-microglobulin is the smaller soluble protein of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It is found on almost all nucleated cells and is used for antigen presentation.
The determination serves as a tumor marker for lymphomas and multiple myeloma and as a prognostic marker for the development of AIDS in HIV infections.
S100B (melanoma)
The proteins of the S100 family are calcium-binding proteins and are found in many cells. The test used here recognizes S-100B, which is mainly found in astroglial cells in the CNS and to a lesser extent also in melanocytes.
The determination of S100B is important for the management of melanoma patients. An increase can be an indication of metastasis or recurrence.
A different test is used for questions about the extent of potential brain damage. Please request this test from the Institute of Clinical Chemistry.
