If these eight controllable risk factors were controlled, over 90% of all heart and cerebral infarctions could be prevented.
However, it goes without saying that controlling the eight risk factors is absolutely crucial, especially after a heart attack or stroke has already occurred, in what is known as secondary prevention.
All eight controllable risk factors (hypercholesterolemia, nicotine abuse, stress, arterial hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet) are covered by the Preventive Cardiology USZ:
- Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation
- Special consultation for lipid metabolism disorders
- Special consultation for arterial hypertension
- Special consultation for sports and exercise cardiology (risk factors: lack of exercise and obesity)
- Special consultation for psychocardiology (risk factor stress)
- Smoking advice
