Obesity Consultation

In the obesity consultation, we care for patients who are overweight. We discuss individualized nutrition and exercise measures and evaluate surgical operations.

As the University Obesity Center Zurich (AZZ), we offer comprehensive and holistic care to patients suffering from severe overweight/obesity and related metabolic diseases. Leading experts in the field of obesity from a wide range of disciplines work closely together to address individual needs and define a customized treatment pathway for each patient.

As a university center, we have a unique national and international network at our disposal, which allows us to draw on the latest findings and state-of-the-art treatment options at any time.

Obesity, diet and lifestyle

Overweight and obesity are important risk factors for chronic diseases. For example, an increased fat mass can contribute to high blood pressure or diabetes, but also to cancer, sleep apnea, psychological problems and isolation. If you are overweight, it is necessary to reduce or at least stabilize your body weight. Many patients have weight problems and have already tried many diets. Losing weight is not easy and maintaining a lower weight after a diet is even more difficult.

In our consultation hours, we offer you an individualized, cause-related clarification and sustainable treatment of obesity. A particular focus is on addressing the behavioral level in order to ensure sustainable success. We also advise you on prevention so that you can stabilize and maintain your body weight at a lower level and reduce the risks of obesity.

Our treatment concepts include a wide range of measures, including indication, clarification and follow-up care for bariatric surgery in cases of morbid obesity. An interdisciplinary team guarantees comprehensive preliminary clarification for a possible operation and long-term follow-up care to prevent complications later on.

Cholesterol and fat metabolism (lipids)

Metabolic disorders, in particular an increase in cholesterol and triglycerides, are among the most important cardiovascular risk factors. There is a direct relationship between the level of cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease. The higher the concentration of cholesterol in the blood, the higher the risk.

Fat metabolism disorders can exert their negative effects unnoticed for years. Early diagnosis and treatment with non-drug and drug measures is important in order to prevent calcification (atherosclerosis) of the coronary vessels and other arteries at an early stage. Comprehensive internal medicine and evidence-based care in our clinic is therefore very important and promising in the long term.

The cardiovascular risk can be favorably influenced by treating lipid metabolism disorders. An indication for treatment is based on an assessment of the overall risk of cardiovascular disease. We also take your personal risk constellation into account.

High blood pressure and hypertension

Cardiovascular diseases are still the most important cause of death. High blood pressure (hypertension) is the most important treatable risk factor for heart disease, stroke, dementia and kidney disease. If you do not know your blood pressure value, we recommend that you have your blood pressure measured, especially as you can have high blood pressure without having any symptoms or complaints.

We care for patients with simple and very complex forms of high blood pressure. We have a great deal of experience in this area and care for patients with high blood pressure both as outpatients and inpatients in a wide variety of sometimes very complex situations.

In our experience, we almost always find a personalized and successful therapy that is precisely tailored to the patient.
