At the beginning of the year, the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery became the first center in Switzerland to be certified by the “German Society for General and Visceral Surgery”. This shows patients that they are in good hands.
“We are very pleased that the quality of our work is recognized and that we meet the high standards of certification,” says Marco Bueter, Head of Surgery at the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery. “It has been shown that our processes are perfectly coordinated.” Even in the case of complicated cases or complications, they are standardized in such a way that the specialists are prepared for all eventualities. The certification requires a centre of excellence to perform a minimum number of operations per year. This guarantees patients that the surgeons have a great deal of experience and routine – as does the entire surgical team that assists them. “Of course, every center for obesity and metabolic surgery can claim a great deal of experience,” emphasizes Marco Bueter. “That’s exactly why it was important to us to have this checked and certified by an independent institution.” In all German-speaking countries, the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery has so far certified only eight centers as centers of excellence.
With its two sites at the University Hospital Zurich and Männedorf Hospital, the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery offers patients various therapy options, including a wide range of surgical procedures. The center can rely on a wide network of specialists from various disciplines. They have their finger on the pulse of research and are thus always able to incorporate new findings into treatment.
