Quality & patient safety
The University Hospital Zurich (USZ) is open to everyone every day and offers basic medical care and cutting-edge medicine at various locations in Zurich. We use our university knowledge advantage to solve a wide range of health problems: close to people, highly specialized and at the cutting edge of research.
Every year, we treat around 42,000 inpatients and record over 600,000 outpatient visits. Our employees guarantee comprehensive and individual medical care across specialist boundaries. This is also confirmed by the top positions in international rankings, which are regularly achieved by both the entire USZ and our more than 40 specialist departments. With around 900 hospital beds and almost 300,000 days of care, the USZ is one of the largest hospitals in Switzerland.
“A wonderful hospital with doctors and nurses who take time for patients.”
In research and teaching, the USZ is closely linked to the medical faculty and laboratories of the University of Zurich. There are numerous collaborations with ETH Zurich. The University Hospital is at the forefront of medical research in Switzerland and also enjoys an excellent international reputation. Our professors are in daily contact with other universities and institutions for the further development of medicine.
Medicine and the healthcare system are changing. We are adapting to these changes by also renewing our hospital in structural terms. Sustainability is very important here: we want to pass on both medical innovations and an environment that is as intact as possible to future generations.
