Procedure
However, this requires antibiotic therapy, immobilization of the affected finger or hand and close monitoring (first follow-up within 24 hours). If the infection is already advanced, the only treatment option is surgical treatment. In addition to local debridement (wound cleansing/joint irrigation), immobilization and intravenous antibiotics are important therapeutic approaches.
Aftercare
A patient with an infection is admitted to hospital after an operation and treated with an intravenous antibiotic. The affected hand is also immobilized in a splint. The first dressing is then changed on the first postoperative day. If the signs of inflammation improve, the antibiotic can be switched to tablets after a few days and the patient can go home. In addition to the medical check-ups, the patient is closely linked to our hand therapy for movement therapy and wound checks.
