Snapping finger – treatment

Procedure

Initially, anti-inflammatory painkillers and immobilization of the metacarpophalangeal joint can be used in an attempt to heal the condition. If this is not sufficient, local cortisone infiltration can be tried. If these measures are ineffective, surgical treatment may be considered. The aim of surgical treatment is to open up the constriction of the tendon sheath in order to create more space for the enlarged tendon and allow it to glide freely.

Aftercare

After the operation, patients should begin active mobilization of their fingers immediately. Postoperative pain is minimal for most patients. Hand/ergotherapy is necessary for some patients after the operation.
