Forms of treatment
Without treatment, patients with pulmonary hypertension have a rather limited prognosis. Only certain patients with CTEPH can be cured by surgical pulmonary endarterectomy. For many patients with pulmonary hypertension, good treatment of the underlying disease is the key to improving their pulmonary hypertension and thus their symptoms. These are smoking cessation, oxygen and inhalation therapy for pulmonary hypertension in lung diseases and consistent therapy of heart failure in pulmonary hypertension in left heart diseases. In recent years, various drug therapies have been developed for PAH group I, which have shown efficacy in randomized studies and thus improve the prognosis of patients. Drug therapies have also recently been approved for inoperable CTEPH patients.
