Impella

The Impella is a small pump that is placed directly in the heart. It pumps the blood from the ventricle directly into the large artery.

This relieves the heart muscles and at the same time improves the supply of oxygen via the coronary vessels. The insertion is also performed under anesthesia. As with ECMO, anticoagulants must also be used here. The treatment team in the intensive care unit is supported by cardiovascular technicians, as with the use of ECMO.
