Trauma of the chest Therapy

Blunt thoracic injuries

Diagnostics

Reduction of respiratory noise, percussive attenuation. Radiologically, a shadowing of the affected half of the thorax can be seen. A test puncture can be carried out to confirm the diagnosis.

Therapy

A minimal hemothorax does not require therapy. All other forms of hemothorax are treated with a chest tube. If bleeding persists, a thoracotomy and shock therapy are indicated.

Pneumothorax

Diagnostics

Clinically, there are diminished breath sounds and reduced mobility of the affected side. Radiologically, a collapsed lung is visible.

Therapy

Insertion of a chest drain. Monitoring is indicated for symptom-free patients with minimal pneumothorax.
