Different procedures are used depending on the extent of the operation and the area of the body affected.
In addition to general anesthesia, spinal anesthesia or regional anesthesia is also possible for some types of anesthesia. Intravenous regional anesthesia is a special form of anesthesia. A local anesthetic is administered via the vein. This procedure is particularly suitable for short procedures in the area of the hand and arm.
For other procedures, however, analgosedation may be sufficient. Patients remain conscious, but are put into a twilight state by the administration of painkillers and sedatives via a vein.
