Congenital heart defects
The affected person is at the center of our attention and our great ambition is to offer the patients entrusted to us competent, comprehensive and personal care. We work together with many specialists from other departments at the USZ.
In addition to medical care, this also includes support in coping with any psychological and social stress caused by the heart disease. If necessary, we are supported by specially trained experts (e.g. social workers, psychiatrists or psychologists).
We work closely with our colleagues in the cardiac department of the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, which ensures the smooth transfer of young people and their families in the form of a joint handover visit.

The experiences of people with congenital heart defects are very individual. Nevertheless, it can sometimes be helpful if our patients and their relatives can exchange experiences and knowledge about their heart defect. This is why we work closely with patient organizations and the Swiss Umbrella Association for Congenital Heart Defects. With the help of brochures and our own experiences, we inform patients about the positive and supportive possibilities.
