With the DaTScan®, like with 18F-DOPA, the presynaptic integrity of the dopaminergic system can be examined. In particular, it can be used to differentiate between essential tremor and other movement disorders with neurogeneration.
Figure: DaTScan® in a patient with Parkinson’s disease, the tracer is only recorded in the caudate, the putamen shows no storage. The DaTScan examination is carried out with SPECT technology and takes about 1 hour.
