Design new adaptive probe for time-domain near-infrared optical tomography (TD NIROT) of pretermneonates.
Project type: semester project
Key words: TD NIROT, brain oxygenation, CAD design, PCB design.
Date: autumn semester 2020
Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory (BORL), UZH is looking for a highly motivated semester student, who is ready to face challenges in research and engineering. Together we will further develop time-domain near-infrared opical tomography (TD NIROT) system Pioneer. This system was recently built in BORL for imaging of neonatal brain. Pioneer demonstrated excellent performance on static objects. Our next step will be to prepare the system for tests in clinic, but we are missing a flexible probe, which will fit a baby head. This is what we need you for!
In this project, you will work on design (in CAD) and electrical components of the probe, you will build a readout electrical circuit that will measure the head shape and track the probe position on the head, and you will develop a model to approximate the head shape based on the readings of position detectors.
The project is hosted by Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory (BORL), Dept. of Neonatology, University of Zurich. The lab has an expertise in NIRS and NIROT, including clinical applications. We are an interdisciplinary team with a great spirit that offers you an exciting environment.
