Under the guidance of PD Dr. Lars Michels researchers will investigate the impact of real-time fMRI neurofeedback training on brain function and behaviour.
In June 2019, a new research study started to analyze the effect of neurofeedback training on brain function. Healthy participants will train brain areas involved in attentional processing and cognitive control using real-time fMRI neurofeedback. This technology shows the activity of particular brain areas in real-time and allows the participants to regulate specific brain regions. Researchers will then look at the longitudinal effects of the training on brain function and various behavioral measures. If training is successful, this technique could help enhance performance in patients with reduced levels of attention or cognitive impairments.
The study is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), involves two PhD students and one postdoctoral fellow, and will run from June 2019 until Mid-2022. It is a collaboration between the Department of Neuroradiology, the University of Geneva, the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich and Stanford University.
