Dear colleagues and dear friends
Traditionally, a course of radiotherapy extended over several weeks. Technological advances combined with a better understanding of radiobiology have allowed a fundamental change of radiotherapy: treatment with a substantially reduced number of highly-focused fractions is today becoming an option for selected patients or even a standard of care.
This virtual “5×5” symposium summarized the current evidence on radiation therapy for breast, lung, pancreatic, prostate and rectal cancer in a maximum of five fractions. International experts explained the reasons for the extreme hypofractionation, the available evidence for or against 5-fraction radiation therapy and the relevance for interdisciplinary cancer care.
The virtual symposium was divided into 5 weekly sessions of 55 minutes each. Each session focused on one tumor entity and each session could be attended separately.
